I would say that this book by Susan Meissner would be better named as a historical thrill ride. With most books I am almost certain how the title identifies with the story before I begin perusing, or, if not then, by the time I am done. I find the title of the book “The Nature of Fragile Things” a bit interesting. The book follows Sophie the times of her marriage with Martin and through her relationship with Martin’s daughter “Kat”. The story is set in San Francisco just before and soon after the great earthquake and fire. The Nature of Fragile Things has a particularly exceptional approach to look at the devastating earthquake that occurred in 1906 “San Francisco”. ![]() ![]() ![]() “A century after his great triumphs, we are still living in Einstein’s universe,” writes Aspen Institute president and former CNN head Isaacson ( Benjamin Franklin: An American Life, 2003, etc.), “one defined on the macro scale by his theory of relativity and on the micro by a quantum mechanics that has proven durable even as it remains disconcerting to some.” Brave enough to tread on such highly specialized ground, and working with newly available archival materials, Isaacson lucidly explains the finer points of Einstein’s theories. ![]() ![]() A comprehensive and marvelously readable life of the eminent scientist-and more, the eminent counter-culturalist, rebel, humanist and philanderer. ![]() ![]() You can register here.īanks on the Brink?
